Terms of Service & Content License

This page explains how you may use Prince Armory Academy patterns, courses, and other content. By purchasing from us or using our site, you agree to these terms.

1. Quick Summary

This summary is provided for convenience. The complete terms below are what govern your use of our content.

You May

  • Build projects for yourself using our patterns.
  • Create gifts for close friends and family, with no payment involved.
  • Customize your physical builds — colors, materials, sizing, embellishments.
  • Display finished work online, in portfolios, or at events.
  • Record or stream your crafting process.

You May Not

  • Sell items made from our patterns without a commercial license.
  • Resell, share, or redistribute our digital files.
  • Upload our content to shared drives or file-sharing platforms.
  • Claim our designs as your own intellectual property.
  • Use our content in paid classes or workshops you teach.
Personal Use = no money changes hands and no business activity is involved.
Commercial Use = you receive or intend to receive compensation of any kind.

Commercial use requires a license. We support makers who want to sell what they build. See Section 3.3 and Section 3.4 for details on commercial licensing through the Merchant Pass.

2. Definitions

"We," "us," "our" refers to Prince Armory, Prince Armory Academy, and any associated legal entities.

"You," "your" refers to any individual or entity accessing our site, purchasing products, or using our content.

"Content" refers to all patterns, downloads, tutorials, videos, text, artwork, designs, 3D files, and other materials we provide, whether free or paid.

"Pattern" refers to any digital template, layout, or design file we provide, including PDF patterns, vector files, and 3D-printable files.

"Personal Use" means use where no money changes hands and no business activity is involved.

"Commercial Use" means any use where you receive, or intend to receive, money or other compensation — directly or indirectly — from items or services created using our content.

"Merchant's Order" refers to the annual commercial licensing membership described in Section 3.4.

"Merchant Pass" refers to the commercial license granted as the core benefit of the Merchant's Order. The Pass defines the specific rights, scope, and limitations of commercial use under that membership.

3. Pattern & Content License

3.1 Ownership

All content we provide is owned by Prince Armory (or our licensors) and is protected by copyright and intellectual property law. When you purchase or access our content, you are purchasing a license to use it under these terms. You do not acquire ownership of the underlying designs, patterns, or course materials.

3.2 Personal Use License (Default)

Unless a product page explicitly states otherwise, all patterns and digital content are provided under a Personal Use License by default.

Under Personal Use, you may:

  • Download and use content to create physical items for your own personal use.
  • Create projects as gifts for close friends and family, provided no payment or trade of value is involved.
  • Modify and customize your physical builds, including colors, sizing, shapes, hardware, embellishments, paint, and finishing details.
  • Share photos or videos of your finished projects on social media, in your portfolio, or at non-commercial exhibitions.
  • Record or stream your crafting process, provided you do not fully reveal or distribute the pattern itself.

Under Personal Use, you may not:

  • Sell, take commissions for, or otherwise monetize items made from our patterns.
  • Use our patterns or course content in any paid class, workshop, or instructional product.
  • Share, resell, or redistribute the digital files in any form.

3.3 Commercial Use

Any of the following constitutes Commercial Use under these terms:

  • Selling finished items created using our patterns or designs.
  • Taking paid commissions where the finished item is based substantially on our designs.
  • Using our patterns or designs as a core element of a product line or business.
  • Including our patterns or course content in a paid class, workshop, or instructional product you sell or teach.
  • Distributing our patterns or downloads as part of any paid offering.

Commercial use requires a valid commercial license. The Merchant Pass (described in Section 3.4) is the standard path for individual makers and small workshops. If you do not hold an active Merchant Pass or a separate written agreement from us, your use is limited to personal use only.

3.4 The Merchant Pass (Commercial License)

The Merchant Pass is the commercial license granted through membership in the Merchant's Order, our annual commercial licensing program. It is designed for independent craftspeople and small workshops who want to sell physical items made from our patterns.

What the Merchant Pass covers:

  • The right to sell physical, handmade items created from any Prince Armory pattern you legitimately own, while your Merchant's Order membership is active.
  • Coverage for individuals and small teams of three or fewer people.
  • Annual sales from items made using our patterns must remain at or below $10,000 USD in combined revenue.

What the Merchant Pass does not cover:

  • Resale or redistribution of our digital files, patterns, or course content in any form.
  • Mass production, batch manufacturing, or retail distribution beyond small-batch handmade work.
  • Operations with teams larger than three people, or annual pattern-derived revenues exceeding $10,000 USD.

If your business grows past these thresholds, we consider that a good outcome. Contact us and we will work out a custom licensing arrangement. We would rather partner with successful makers than restrict them.

The Merchant's Order is separate from Guild membership (Squire, Knight, Noble). The Guild provides community access, shop discounts, store credit, and premium content. The Merchant's Order and its Merchant Pass deal specifically with commercial rights. They serve different purposes and can be held together.

If your Merchant's Order membership lapses, items you produced and sold while active remain covered. You may not produce or list new items for commercial sale under the Merchant Pass after your membership expires. Renew to continue, or contact us about a separate arrangement.

3.5 Prohibited Uses

Regardless of license type, you may not:

  • Resell, share, gift, or redistribute any of our digital content as-is, or in any form where the original content can be extracted or reconstructed.
  • Upload our content to shared drives, file-sharing services, marketplaces, torrent sites, or any platform where others could access or download it.
  • Reverse engineer, trace, or convert our patterns into alternative digital formats for the purpose of distributing or selling them.
  • Create derivative digital patterns that are substantially based on our designs and sell or distribute those derivative patterns.
  • Use our content to create NFTs, blockchain-based assets, or AI/machine-learning training datasets without prior written permission.
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to scrape, bulk-download, or systematically access our content or site data.

3.6 Customization, Derivative Works & Inspiration

We encourage creative interpretation. You are free to customize your physical builds: adjust shapes, scale, decorations, paint, hardware, and finishing techniques. You may also apply skills and techniques learned from our courses to your own original designs.

However:

  • Modifications to a physical build do not give you the right to redistribute, resell, or claim ownership of the underlying digital pattern.
  • If a design is clearly recognizable as derived from a Prince Armory pattern, you may not sell a competing digital pattern or template based on it.

3.7 Attribution

Attribution is appreciated but not required for personal use. A simple credit such as "Pattern by Prince Armory Academy" or a social media tag helps support the studio and directs others to the original source.

If you hold a Merchant Pass, attribution requirements may be specified in your licensing agreement.

Members of our Heralds program can share their referral link as a form of attribution that also earns rewards.

3.8 Enforcement

Our preference is always conversation before conflict. If we become aware of misuse, our typical approach is:

  1. Reach out privately to explain the issue and request a correction.
  2. Ask you to remove infringing listings or content.
  3. Offer a path to proper licensing where appropriate.
  4. Pursue formal legal action in cases of serious, repeated, or willful infringement.

If you become aware of piracy or unauthorized use of our content, we appreciate notification through our contact page or Discord community.

4. Site & Account Terms

4.1 Eligibility

You must be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction (or have verifiable parental or guardian consent) to create an account or make purchases. You represent that the information you provide during registration is accurate and that you will keep it current.

4.2 Account Security

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  • You are responsible for all activity under your account, whether or not you authorized it.
  • You agree to notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in abusive or harassing behavior toward staff or community members, or attempt to exploit, hack, or scrape the site.

4.3 Access to Digital Content

  • Most digital products and courses are delivered through online access, download, or both.
  • We strive to maintain ongoing access, but may update, reorganize, or retire content as products evolve.
  • We are not responsible for your local backups. We recommend storing downloaded files safely.
  • Temporary downtime may occur. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

5. Purchases, Payments & Refunds

5.1 Pricing

All prices are listed in USD unless otherwise noted. Prices may change without prior notice. You are responsible for any applicable taxes, duties, or fees required by your jurisdiction.

5.2 Payments

We use third-party payment processors to handle transactions. By making a purchase, you agree to the applicable processor's terms. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel orders in cases of suspected fraud, pricing errors, or other irregularities.

5.3 Refunds

  • Digital products (patterns, downloads, courses) are generally non-refundable once accessed or downloaded, unless otherwise stated on the product page or required by applicable law.
  • Physical products, pre-orders, and special offers follow the refund terms described on their respective product or checkout pages.
  • Memberships (Guild, Merchant's Order) may be cancelled at any time through your user dashboard. Cancellation must occur before your next renewal date. No partial refunds are issued for the current billing period.

If you believe there has been a billing error, contact us through our support channels. While we generally cannot make exceptions to these policies, we will review your case in good faith.

6. Intellectual Property & Trademarks

All trademarks, logos, and service marks displayed on our sites — including "Prince Armory," "Prince Armory Academy," and associated visual marks — are the property of Prince Armory or our licensors.

You may not use our names, logos, or branding as part of your business name, or in any way that implies endorsement, sponsorship, or official partnership, without prior written consent.

You may describe your work factually. For example, "Built using a pattern from Prince Armory Academy" is acceptable as long as it does not suggest official affiliation.

7. User Content & Media Rights

When you share content with us or on our platforms — including comments, reviews, testimonials, build photos, videos, process shots, social media posts, Discord messages, or any other media — you grant us the following rights:

  • A non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, crop, edit, display, distribute, and create derivative works from that content.
  • The right to use submitted content across any medium or platform, including but not limited to: our website, social media accounts, email marketing, printed materials, advertisements, student galleries, promotional videos, course materials, and community showcases.
  • The right to use your name, username, or likeness in connection with that content for attribution or promotional purposes.

You retain ownership of your original content. This license does not prevent you from using, sharing, or licensing your work elsewhere.

By submitting content to our platforms, you represent that you have the right to grant us this license and that your content does not infringe on the intellectual property or other rights of any third party.

If you do not want your work to be featured on our site, or in our emails, or social channels, or otherwise publicly visible or potentially used in any way, do not post it on our platforms.

You agree not to submit content that is illegal, hateful, defamatory, infringing, or otherwise harmful.

8. Heralds Program & Referrals

The Heralds program is our community engagement and referral system. It allows students, customers, and partners to earn recognition and rewards through participation, referrals, and contributions.

  • The Heralds program is governed by its own terms and guidelines, which may be updated independently from this Terms of Service.
  • Referral commissions, store credit (Gems), Honor Points, and other rewards are granted at our discretion and may be modified, paused, or revoked if we determine that program terms are being abused.
  • We reserve the right to adjust commission rates, reward structures, rank thresholds, and program eligibility at any time.
  • Fraudulent referrals, self-referrals, fake accounts, or any scheme designed to artificially generate commissions or rewards may result in forfeiture of all earned rewards and termination of program access and account standing.

9. Disclaimers

Our content is provided for educational and informational purposes.

  • We do not guarantee any specific results, skill level, or income from using our patterns, courses, or advice.
  • Leathercraft, tool use, and workshop activities involve inherent physical risks. You are solely responsible for your own safety, including proper use of tools and protective equipment, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Tools, materials, or equipment featured in our content may occasionally be provided, discounted, or sponsored by third parties. We feature products we believe are suitable, but you are responsible for evaluating whether they meet your own needs and safety requirements.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our content and services are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:

  • We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our content, products, or services, including but not limited to lost profits, data loss, personal injury, or property damage.
  • Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or our services will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the specific product or service giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred dollars ($100 USD).

Some jurisdictions do not permit certain limitations. In those jurisdictions, the limitations above apply only to the extent permitted by applicable law.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Prince Armory, Prince Armory Academy, and our owners, employees, contractors, and partners from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and reasonable expenses (including attorney's fees) arising from:

  • Your use or misuse of our content, products, or services.
  • Your violation of these Terms.
  • Your violation of any applicable law or the rights of any third party.
  • Any physical items you produce or sell using our patterns, including product liability claims brought by third parties.

12. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and, where applicable, the federal laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

If a dispute arises, you agree to first contact us and make a good-faith effort to resolve the matter informally. If informal resolution is not achieved within a reasonable period, then except where prohibited by law:

  • Any legal action arising from these Terms or your use of our services will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in or serving Montgomery County, Texas.
  • You consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts and waive any objection to venue.

Nothing in this section limits rights you may have under mandatory consumer protection laws in your place of residence.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible. The remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. When we do, we will update the date shown at the bottom of this page. For material changes, we may also notify you by email or through a notice on the site.

Continued use of our site or content after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you disagree with any changes, discontinue use of our site and content.
